Island snorkelling

We boated to islands off Semporna to snorkel. Some coral was colourful but most was dead as the water gets polluted from the island villages which are very poor. The best thing we saw was a giant turtle and I could have touched it. There also lots of colourful fish. I played catch with some local kids. They couldn't speak English but all I had to say was "hello". Games don't need a language!

When you went snorkelling was it freezing? Did you go out really deep? Was there lots of sealife? It looks like a lot of fun.

The water was very warm - not like New Zealand! You didn't need a wetsuit, just your togs. We swam out to the edge of the reef where it drops off to the abyss but we stayed on the edge as we were snorkelling, not diving. This is where we saw the giant turtle. There was also lots of other sealife such as trigger fish, lepoard fish, starfish and sea urchins.
